The Green Goddess

I stand in the presence of a towering a beauty, a green goddess. She grows therapeutically in the ambience of Mozart. The room looks like a funhouse, coated with mirrored walls, as if she were a dancer waiting to perform. The system is something I have never seen before. Filters, pumps, high-pressure sodium lights, all meticulously placed for one reason: to cater to her, the artistic outlet for so many, my personal muse. I stand, dumbfounded as to how something so beautiful, so giving, can be an extreme taboo amongst our society. Why is it that people fear the tree of life granted to us by nature?

She calls to me, as her leaves stand in prayer. Every tip stretches towards light like a child awaiting his mother’s embrace. The plant is surprisingly powerful; being a weed, it resists and adapts easily to different environments.  Grown properly, she can grow one to two inches per day, new growth every time she is seen.  Branches and leaves coat her rapidly, each with unique qualities, varying in shades of green. The new growth, however, is always a brilliant emerald green. It is no wonder that something of this magnitude has been around for ages, used globally as a source of medication and spirituality.

When this goddess reaches the end of her journey, she is frosted with crystals. Covered with large buds, she is known for her vibrant reds and shimmering whites. In some cases, depending on the strain, blues and purples can be witnessed. The intricate color and smell is simply mesmerizing. Once she is ready, she stands fierce and full of power. Some of her siblings in the sativa family are known to reach up to twenty-five feet in height. After careful preparations, we stand before her offerings and we are ready to indulge.

The buds can be consumed in two ways, ingestion and inhalation. They carry a well-known distinct fragrance; to many, the smell of love, peace, and tranquility. Whichever way one chooses to consume, the taste is absolutely mouth watering, a bizarre combination of flowers and fruit play on the tongue. If inhaled, the sweet soothing sensation will always be lacking proper description, indeed a personal experience to acquire. It takes about 6 seconds for one to feel the effects of this herb. Once it comes, she cradles you, calms you. For those who cannot sleep, she helps you dream. For those who have pain, she takes it away. For those who are looking for something, anything, she will blow your mind.

This gorgeous green beauty can supply food, fuel, fiber, oil and medication. As I stand before her, I take in her beauty, the endless supply of life.  She stands as a way of life for so many, as a salvation for thousands. She is the object of obsession, money, and love simultaneously. Disapproving society uses her as a crutch to excuse their own abuse, but there are many of us that know better. I will not deny the gifts that were given to me, as all seeds hold value. So much she has taught me, so much to be exposed.
